“It burns so good. That’s how you know it’s working!”
Unfiltered apple cider vinegar is a super substance, a true health tonic made from apples and yeast to produce a fermented concoction that does a variety of wonders for our health. In addition to its beneficial enzyme and probiotic content, the process yields acetic acid, a healthy acid that has an alkaline effect.
Back pocket fact: Vinegar means “sour wine” in French. Pretty neat huh? Moving on…
So what is so great about this stuff? Here’s a list:
Apple cider vinegar speeds up the metabolism, reduces water retention, and my favorite, kills junk food cravings. An ounce of apple cider vinegar swigged from the bottle or mixed in a glass of water first thing in the morning does wonders for keeping the appetite in check.
Lowers blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar
This vinegar has a proven antihypertensive effect which keeps arteries healthy. It also supports the liver by increasing the production of good cholesterol (HDL) which lowers bad cholesterol (LDL). Last, mixed with a glass of water before a meal is a great way to keep blood sugar balanced, aiding in fat loss and helping to prevent and manage diabetes. That holistic medicine guru Dr. Axe even claims that cider vinegar should play “a prominent role in every diabetic diet plan.”
Improves nutrient absorption and gut health
This one is huge because our food is seriously lacking in nutrients. Most people are deficient in any number of essential vitamins and minerals because our food is as processed as Frankenstein’s monster and our soil is over-farmed and loaded with toxic pesticides. Apple cider vinegar helps the body absorb more of these nutrients by healing issues like heartburn and by balancing good digestive bacteria.
Antioxidant and detox properties
This stuff binds with heavy metals and other toxins, which are epidemic in the Western lifestyle. It also works by aiding in lymph movement and removing mucus. Antioxidants are a buzzword for substances that may protect cells from the damage caused by unstable molecules known as free radicals, thought to cause cancer.
I hope you’re convinced on trying this potent super tonic. A word of warning, it tastes awful, but it’s not so bad watered down. And like anything, you get used to it pretty quick. Go for the organic raw stuff like Bragg’s because this kind preserves the nutrients. The kind I am loving right now is from Boa Vista Orchards in Camino, California.
Have you tried it? Love it? Hate it? Let me know what you think in the comments!
